reflective journal- week 16

1. What did you actually learned from the unit.

-this week from reading the article for modern healthcare I saw the importance of doing something nice for our patients and connecting with them in a way we may not always connect.

-we didn’t have a team activity this week. 

3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice.

-I will do my best to make a connection with my patients and help make their experience of being in the hospital a better one. 

4. You personal feelings about the material covered.

-it is cool to see what a nurse can do to impact patient lives and the patient’s families lives.  

Reflective Journal – Week 15

1. What did you actually learned from the unit.

-This week I learned that there can be a lot of tricky situations, especially in healthcare and I am glad there are people to help us through those situations.  As I become more experienced in the field I may be more comfortable dealing with things like this but as of now I would be some what lost without all the help.

-With the team activity we all felt the same way, everything was done as policy states and it was just an unfortunate accident.  There may be some policy changes that could be made to help prevent situations like this in the future. 

3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice.

-As a nurse you really have to be so good at charting everything that you do and you need to be very aware of what the policies are on your unit so you are prepared for situations like this.  

4. You personal feelings about the material covered.

-This is very important information to cover.  We deal with situations every shift that could easily turn into a legal situation and we need to be prepared for it. 

Reflective Journal- week 13

1. What did you actually learned from the unit.

-I learned that motivation can really go a long way.  By using motivation you can really help employees to feel needed and wanted on the unit. 

2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why?

-It was interesting to see all the different ways that my team came up with on how to boost moral on the unit.  There is really so many ways and not all of them have to be extravagant.  They just have to show the employees that you care. 

3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice.

-In my nursing practice I will remember the importance of motivation and try and do my part to show people that they are making a difference.

-I feel like this is a very important topic.  I have worked on units that weren’t good at this and it makes a big difference when going to work for sure.  

Reflective journal – week 12

1. What did you actually learned from the unit.

-I learned that there are many ways to deal with a disagreement, most of them the wrong way.  I also learned the importance of being open minded when dealing with a conflict or bargaining.

-Not really, we all seemed to have the same view point on how to deal with these types of situations.  But it was interesting to see the small things that everyone of us would do differently.

-In the nursing practice everyone is going to deal with conflict so it is important to remember that and be able to apply the positive ways of dealing with it to make it as easy as possible.

-I feel like this is important things to go over as we all deal with this in all parts of life. 

Reflective Journal- week 11

1. What did you actually learned from the unit.

  • This week it really showed how important planning is to really give the best outcome and help build and give more opportunity to hospitals and schools.

  • This weeks team activity was interesting to do to see what needs to be done to help benefit the growth of the hospital.  It takes a lot of work and a lot of planning for sure.

  • This week has helped me in my planning skills and I will be able to use these skills to better plan in my future.

  • Planning is always a good skill to have and can always be perfected.

Doing this interview I learned that budgets are very complex things and can really vary on how they are used depending on their purpose.  This manager has his budget with a financial firm and it is set up quite differently then a nursing unit but in the end the ultimate goal is try and save money as much as possible and have more money coming in than going out.  

Reflective Journal- Week 10

1. What did you actually learned from the unit.

-That there really is so many different ways to deal with change and although there is better ways then others that isn’t just one way to do so.  As long as you are open minded to change and are able to adapt that is all that matters. 

2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why?

-It was so interesting to see who everyone identified with in the story.  See who they all related to didn’t really change my opinion on who I was but gave me ideas of things I need to work on when it comes to change.  

3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice.

-Change is constant in the nursing practice and it is something that we need to be able to adapt to and move forward with.  As I face change I am going to try and be more open minded with the change and try and adapt quicker and in a more smooth way.  

4. You personal feelings about the material covered.

-This was a good topic to discuss.  Change is everywhere and it really seems like everyone has at least a little difficulty dealing with it, some more than others for sure.  But it is good to discuss it and see how others make it easier to adapt.   

Reflective Journal- Week 9

1. What did you actually learned from the unit?

-I learned that doing a schedule is a lot of work and we only really had to set up one for fake people that didn’t really get a say of when they want their shifts.  I can only imagine how hard it is then.  

2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why?

-It is interesting to see all the different directions that we as nurses can go.  We really have so many options of where we want to take our career. See where everyone else plans to go with their career didn’t make me change my mind about what I want to do but it was just interesting to see. 

3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice.

-Be more considerate when the unit is trying to put together the schedule.  It is a lot of work and there are a lot of opinions.  Especially as a new nurse I just have to deal with the worse schedule and remember that as I get more experience it will get better.

-It was good information to go over and really have to think about.  It is especially important to think about the career development and think of what I want my career to lead to and start making a plan. 

Reflective Journal- week 8

1. What did you actually learned from the unit.

-This week just reemphasized how important nursing is and what a big impact we make as nurses.  This week also hit on the fact that there is still a lot that needs to be improved in nursing to help make the future of nursing just that much better.  

2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why?

-I don’t think it really changed my opinion I think it just made my opinion stronger.  It was interesting to see how passionate we all are about nursing and how we all have the drive to make nursing the best it can possibly be.  we as nurses have the ability to make such an impact and with some hard work to advance towards some of the goals talked about this week we can make even more of a difference for healthcare.  

3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice.

-I will continue to say informed of the changes happening in the nursing community overall and help support those changes and help move them along so I can help do my part to make the future of nursing better.

-I liked this week, there was some really good information that was covered and help me see the importance of supporting the future of nursing in as many ways as possible.  

Reflective Journal- week 7

1. What did you actually learned from the unit.

-Something I learned for this week is that budgeting is hard.  Trying to figure out what to cut for that unit was extremely hard and took a lot of thinking for sure.  Although, it shows how important it is to not take things for granted and wast things because the money has to come from somewhere.  

2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why?

-It was interesting to see what everyone decided to cut.  Everyone had an opinion on what was important to keep and what could be cut.  I think it did change my opinion as a I saw some of their other ideas.  

3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice.

-don’t wast medical supplies and be aware of what you are using because it could be costing your unit a lot of money.  Also I will be more aware of why they make some of the cuts they are making to help keep the unit going and not having to fire people. 

4. You personal feelings about the material covered.

-I think this was a very educational week.  I learned a lot about the budgeting that goes into a unit and how hard it is.  It was good to see how much money goes where.
